Terms of Service
These are the rules for using hiveminded and hiveminded.io. We've tried to keep them short and plain. By using any part of it, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
Last updated: 2026-10-15
What these terms cover
- The software: hiveminded, the workspace you download and run on your own machine, including alpha and beta builds.
- The website: hiveminded.io and its pages.
- Accounts: the account you make on hiveminded.io to download hiveminded, hold your keys and manage billing.
- The hosted relay: the service at hiveminded.io that carries messages between workspaces in a Trusted Circle, checks license keys and serves updates.
- Licenses and keys: the license keys and alpha access codes that turn on Core, PRO or Relay in a workspace.
"We" and "us" means the people who run hiveminded.io. "You" means the person using any of the above. If you use hiveminded for a company or another group, you're agreeing for them too, so make sure you're allowed to.
The software's license
hiveminded is proprietary software with its source available. The hiveminded License, not these terms, decides what you may do with the code: run it, read it and change it for your own workspaces, and not redistribute it, resell it, or run it as a service for others. The full text is in the LICENSE file that comes with the code. (Versions up to 0.18.1 shipped under the Apache License 2.0; the hiveminded License applies to the versions that carry it.)
These terms add rules only for the things we run or sell: the website, accounts, the hosted relay, and keys. Where the license and these terms disagree about the software itself, the license wins.
Your account
- Be accurate. Use your real email address, one you can read. We send confirmations, password resets and notes about your licenses there.
- Keep it safe. Keep your password and two-step codes to yourself. You're responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else got in, change your password and tell us.
- One person per account. Don't share an account, and don't make one for someone else without asking them.
- Leaving: you can delete your account at any time on your account page.
Keys and licenses
- Your own workspaces: a key is for your own workspaces, up to the number of seats on it. Each workspace that uses the key takes a seat.
- Don't share or resell keys. Don't publish them, sell them, or use one key to get around its seat limit. The same goes for alpha access codes: they're for the people they were sent to.
- PRO is a one-time payment, not a subscription.
- Relay is a monthly subscription. It covers Trusted Circles through the hosted relay, updates, and PRO features while you're subscribed. It renews every month until you cancel.
- Payments go through Stripe. We never see your card details.
- Cancelling: you can cancel a Relay subscription at any time on its billing page at Stripe, which you open from your account page or the license page. Cancelling stops the next renewal.
- Refunds: if a payment went wrong or you want a refund, write to privacy@hiveminded.io and we'll sort it out with you.
Alpha and beta builds
The alpha and beta are early versions. They're provided as is. They have bugs, and features can change, move between plans or go away without notice. Keep backups of anything you care about.
Acceptable use
Don't use hiveminded.io, the relay or your account to:
- break the law, or store or send illegal content;
- abuse the relay: flood it with traffic, use it as general storage or a proxy, or push anything through it that isn't hiveminded traffic;
- attack or probe our systems or anyone's workspace, or try to get into accounts that aren't yours;
- send spam, through Trusted Circles, our email or anything else of ours;
- reverse-engineer, scrape or tamper with the hosted service to get around seat limits, plan limits or rate limits.
What you do in a workspace you run yourself stays on your machine, and we can't see it. It still has to be legal.
The relay can't read your messages
Messages between workspaces in a Trusted Circle are sealed before they leave your workspace. The relay holds them until they're delivered (7 days at most) and passes them on, but it can't read them, and neither can we. Circle names and member lists are sealed too.
The relay sees only what it needs to route that traffic: the IDs of the workspaces in each circle, and each registered workspace's ID, name and public key. The privacy notice has the details. Because we can't read sealed traffic, we don't review it. You're responsible for what you send.
Suspension and termination
- We can suspend or close an account, revoke a key, or cut a workspace off from the relay if it breaks these terms, puts the service or other people at risk, or if the law requires it. When it's reasonable, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem.
- If a key is revoked, the features it turned on stop. The Core features keep working, and your data stays on your machine.
- You can stop using hiveminded at any time, and delete your account on your account page.
No warranty
hiveminded, the website and the relay are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise that the relay will always be up, that anything will be free of errors, or that every message will arrive. Some places don't allow these exclusions; there, they apply as far as the law allows.
Limitation of liability
As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or business, that come from using hiveminded, the website or the relay, or from not being able to use them. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US$50, whichever is more.
Nothing here limits liability that the law doesn't allow us to limit.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If a change matters, we'll say so here and, if you have an account, by email before it takes effect. If you keep using hiveminded after that, you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute about them goes to the state or federal courts located in Utah, and you and we agree to those courts' jurisdiction. If you live somewhere whose consumer laws give you rights these terms can't take away, you keep those rights.
